One gone, another to go ?08 January 2004It looks quite possible that Albion striker Jason Roberts will be joining Wigan Athletic, according to reports in the local press. Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp, where Roberts is currently on loan, has admitted that he does not know whether Roberts will still be there on Saturday as Wigan are believed to have bid ?2 million for his services, and Roberts is believed to be keen on the move. Portsmouth have the first option to buy Roberts if they can match any other offer received for him, but Redknapp has been moaning in the press recently that he does not have any money to spend so that would seem unlikely. It all depends, therefore, on whether Albion will accept the bid for a player that looks unlikely to feature in the first team as long as Gary Megson remains in charge. The club have already turned down a bid of ?1.75 million from Wigan, which prompted them to return with an improved offer - but at the same time they gave Albion a "take it or leave it" ultimatum with the warning that they would switch their attentions elsewhere if it were not accepted promptly. According to Albion Chairman, Jeremy Peace, "we have three options - play him, leave him at Pompey or sell him. We are currently considering our options" Meanwhile, Angolan midfielder Jordao has left Albion after finally recovering from his long term injury, and joined Portugese Superliga club Estrela Amadora on a free transfer. Originally released at the end of last season, Jordao was injured at the time and Albion did the decent thing by continuing his employent until he was fit enough to sign for a new club. Despite making a major contribution to Albion's promotion two years ago by scoring six goals, he never won a regular place in the side and at the age of 33 is unlikely to do so now. Rumours that Jordao was too "attack minded" to play in Albion's midfield have yet to be confirmed.
