Wednesday blues...

Albion fans have two things to worry about today, it seems. First of all comes the news that Everton have sacked manager Walter Smith, and according to The Independent, Megson is on a short list of two to replace him. The favourite for the job, however, is Preston's David Moyes - and the fact that there are only about six weeks to go to save them from relegation might suggest that Moyes had already been lined up before Smith started heading for the exit.

However, the article - which describes Megson as "available" - goes on to say:

"Megson is also at loggerheads with the West Brom board over spending and he can leave with a fixed fee of £350,000 in his contract."

The bottom line is that Megson has been a great success here, and will almost certainly be linked with every managerial vacancy under the sun...

Further distress to Albion fans may come from the fact that target Kevin Cooper wasn't dropped from Wimbledon's game last night - he came on as a sub, scored one goal and set up another. Dons manager Terry Burton said of Cooper:

"West Brom did show an interest but as far as I know I don't think it will go any further than that. Football-wise I want to keep him, but financially that's out of my hands. But Kevin wanted to stay which is a great bonus for us. He doesn't want to go anywhere. He's a family man and when he came down here he settled so well. He loves the players and the club. But he knows he has to look after his own future."

Doesn't look too encouraging, does it?

Latest update: Preston have just said that they have now been officially approached by Everton, and will discuss the approach with Moyes today.
