Cooper bid accepted?

12 March 2002

According to press reports, Albion have had a £1 million bid for Wimbledon midfielder Kevin Cooper accepted. However, a statement on the official site plays this down, with Chief Executive John Wile stating "We believe we've made some progress, but contrary to the reports in the papers today, there is still a lot to talk about with Wimbledon and then, if we can reach an agreement with them, with the player and his representatives." Cooper has scored 9 goals so far this season, which would suggest they would be reluctant to lose him - but they are now desperate to trim their wages bill and bring in some cash as their Premiership parachute money runs out.

Signed in March 2001 from Stockport in a £800,000 deal, Kevin proved himself to be a steal with a series of fine performances which saw him grab three goals in just 11 games from midfield.

A former Derby trainee, Kevin joined the Hatters on a free transfer in 1997, and his form at Edgely Park made him a long-time target for Terry Burton who had kept tabs on him for over two years.

A skillful, hard working attacking midfielder, Kevin has already made himself a popular member of the side with supporters and will play an important role for the side in the push for promotion next season.
