Clement to Leeds, say Yorkshiremen

11 March 2002

According to this afternoon's Yorkshire Evening Post, "Leeds boss David O'Leary is preparing a sensational summer swoop for exciting young defender Neil Clement."

The article states that their scouts have identified Clement as a top target for the rebuilding operation that will take place on their squad in the summer. Apparently a host of Premiership clubs are interested, including Middlesbrough and Blackburn, but "it is understood that United are leading the race to sign him."

Quite how you can be leading a race to sign someone that isn't actually for sale, and not yet out of contract, is not made clear.
