What's Gregan done wrong ?

10 August 2004

Albion have announced that they have reluctantly accepted a transfer request from one of the most influential players of last season - former captain Sean Gregan. Gregan joined at the start of our last Premiership season in a ?1.75 million move from Preston and has been a mainstay of the side ever since.

However, this season it seems he has fallen drastically out of favour with Megson, has barely figured in first team friendlies and has now been forced to train with the youth team. Speaking to the South Wales Echo, Gregan revealed that he had asked for a transfer because of the frustration of being left out of the first team picture, and is aware of the interest in him from other clubs - Cardiff, Leeds, Burnley and Nottingham Forest, among others - but unable to do anything about it until Albion make a decision on his future.

Albion have said that unless they receive an acceptable offer, Gregan will be going nowhere. Why they should be reluctant to accept a transfer request from a player who clearly seems to have no part to play in the team is uncertain, though there have been rumours that Gregan has been the subject of disagreement between Peace and Megson - with Megson keen to sell him but Peace wanting to keep him.
