Hughes found guilty

09 August 2004

After only 90 minutes of deliberation in the trial of Lee Hughes at Coventry Crown Court, the jury has found Lee Hughes guilt of causing death by dangerous driving. The Albion striker had already pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.

Hughes has received a prison sentence of six years. The club have released an official statement saying that they have terminated his contract, which still had two years left to run. They expressed sympathy with the family of Mr Douglas Graham, killed in the accident last November, and with the driver and other passengers who were all injured.
