Transfer roundup

27 March 2002

First of all, striker Trevor Benjamin has joined us on loan for the rest of the season. Benjamin, who has been called up in the past for England Under-21 duty, has been something of a journeyman this season, having faced us while playing for both Leicester and Norwich - although he failed to find the net in either game. He was also supposed to have been an Albion target around the end of last season.

Next up, strange rumours are doing the rounds regarding Jason Koumas, suggesting that he has failed his medical at Albion and has gone away to decide what to do. More reliable sources, however, suggest that he hasn't yet taken the medical, which makes more sense as it's normally the last thing that happens before signing the contract. Koumas is on duty with the Welsh squad tonight and is still expected at the Hawthorns tomorrow to begin his Albion career. Interestingly, Koumas is reported to have said in a radio interview that "he hoped to get into the Welsh squad more often now that he'd moved".

Finally, remember our recent transfer target - Kevin Cooper of Wimbledon? The one that didn't want to join us because he was settled and happy in London? Well, he's just completed his move to Wolves, saying that "Being offered a chance to play for Wolves, in a great stadium with great fans is like a dream". Let's hope it turns into a nightmare as they lose second spot to us and fail in the playoffs...
