Baggies get the points21 March 2002Suprise, suprise - Albion have been awarded the three points for the win against Sheffield United. The Football League Board met today to make the decision, with Albion Chairman Paul Thompson standing down during the discussions because of his vested interest. The decision was unanimous, with League spokesman John Nagle stating: "The Board were absolutely clear that any other decision would be grossly unfair and would set a precedent that would not be in the best interests of the game." Decisions over what action, if any, to be taken against those involved in the events that took place will be the subject of a separate FA meeting at some future date. The League have referred the information regarding the game to the FA for consideration. The award puts us within eight points of second-placed Wolves, with a game still in hand.
