League Cup Round 2: Derby County

06 September 2000

The reward for Albion's late winner tonight is a place in the second round against Derby County. The first game is away, to be played in the week commencing 18th September, with the home leg played in the week commencing 25th September.

History, unfortunately, is not on our side for League Cup clashes with the Rams. In 1986 we lost 4-1 away in the first leg of the 2nd round and then 1-0 at home to go out 5-1 on aggregate, and in 1990, we lost 2-0 away in the fourth round.

Our last encounter was more fruitful - even if it was of little consequence. We beat them 3-2 on the last day of their promotion season to the Premiership, where they've stayed ever since...
