DeFreitas to leave after settlement

31 August 2000

Today's B'ham Post reports that Albion have agreed a six-figure pay-off agreement with Fabian De Freitas which will see him leave the club immediately. As a result, De Freitas was excluded from last night's reserve game which he was due to be playing in. The agreement came too late for his name to be removed from the teamsheet submitted to the referee, so he had to be substituted before a ball was kicked.

Talks involving De Freitas, his agent and Albion directors were concluded early yesterday evening. Paul Thompson said: "We have agreed terms for Fabian to move on and find another club. We feel it is in the best interest of both parties."

The report says that De Freitas was on wages in excess of £6,000 per week.

Ruel Fox has completed his £200,000 transfer from Spurs.
