Albion strikers arrested!

31 August 2000

Lee Hughes and Jason Roberts were arrested by police following an incident at the Waterfront bar in Brierley Hill on Monday night and have been released on bail until the end of September. The players were on a night out with other members of the squad, including captain Derek McInnes, and the assault is being reported as having taken place somewhere near a cash machine. Witnesses have said that the players were being followed and shouted at by a couple of men who appeared to have taken exception to something that the players said to them. Who, if anyone, was taking money out of the cash machine is not clear - but one would guess that if it was the players, any accusation that they were the cause of the trouble would be somewhat hard to believe...

Meanwhile, the Express and Star reports that Lee Hughes and his now-pregnant wife are being forced to move from their Smethwick home after regular harrassment - including having groups of men banging on their front door at four in the morning.
