Two more in for Saturday?24 August 2000It looks like Albion will have two new faces in the squad in time for Saturday if media reports are to be believed. Or, at least, one new face and one slightly familiar face - because one of them is believed to be Portugese midfielder Jordao, who played in the pre-season friendly against India. Jordao was sent home after his trial period ended because Albion felt that the price on his head was excessive for a player with one year on his contract - but it is believed that the two Clubs may have come to an arrangement with regard to the fee. The other is the player that the Club announced they would be taking no further interest in after his failure to make a deal with his own club - Ruel Fox. However, as we said on these pages a week or so ago - don't you believe it! It seems that patience has paid off again, and a satisfactory deal has been done - which may result in a slightly higher transfer fee for us to pay, presumably so that some of it can be given to Fox by Spurs as part of the contract settlement. The view seems to be that both players will pass medicals and sign up in time for the noon deadline tomorrow, making them eligible for Saturday's game at Barnsley. We believe that Jordao is right footed, however - which still leaves us with a gap on the left side of midfield after Jason Van Blerk was dropped from the first team squad earlier this week. Speculation is still rife about the potential signing of Paul Trollope from Fulham - a player who has never really performed there, but is still highly regarded by fans of Derby, from whom he joined the Londoners a couple of years ago. Trollope is not expected to be signed this week, although it looks like the deal is far from dead yet.
