Jason chopped for the Cup

21 August 2000

Following his disappointment with the performance in midfield on Saturday, Gary Megson has dropped Jason Van Blerk from the midfield for tomorrow nights game at Swansea. What's more suprising - or perhaps not, given the list of potential replacements - is that he will replace him for the League Cup match with 18 year old Mark Briggs, who played for the Youth team on Saturday and scored their goal against Shrewsbury Town. The callup for Briggs comes as the ongoing search for a left sided midfielder still fails to bear fruit, and will be sure to make Youth Director John Trewick extremely proud.

Megson, as ever, was not backwards in coming forwards about his views of the game against Bolton - blaming the lack of fight in midfield for the level of pressure on the defence, and saying that we effectively had a midfield of one - as only Derek McInnes was prepared to put in a tackle.

It is also certain that Bob Taylor will figure in the starting eleven following another appearance from the bench, but Megson has yet to decide whether to drop one of his so-far unsuccessful strikers to make room for him, to play three up front or to juggle things round some other way.
