McInnes on his way to sign for Albion

09 August 2000

Midfielder Derek McInnes has accepted Albion's offer of personal terms and is currently en route to the Hawthorns for the mandatory medical before signing a contract. He was given an ultimatum yesterday by the Club, who could not afford to leave the vital midfield strengthening exercise any longer - and responded by saying yes.

The signings won't stop there, according to Chief Executive John Wile. Speaking on local station Capital Gold Birmingham, Wile told supporters that there are more deals being worked on at the moment - deals that have been under negotiation for some time and that were expected to bear fruit in the near future. He also spoke of how the Club's approach to bringing in players - that of patient discussion and negotiation - has worked well in the signings of Clement, Roberts and McInnes and has been vindicated as the right way for Albion to do things. Wile also spoke of the recent acquistion of land for Albion's new training ground, saying that while managers, players and staff come and go, the training ground would be there for years to come and provide the means to train and develop players for the future.

Unless, of course, a change at the top see us head backwards again and sell it for peanuts...
