McInnes goes home to chew over Albion offer

28 July 2000

Midfielder Derek McInnes has concluded contract talks with Albion and gone home for the weekend to discuss the move with his wife. Albion have agreed a fee of £450,000 with Toulouse, but the problem would seem to be the money that McInnes was earning there - supposedly equivalent to a good Premiership package. While a move to Albion would give him the chance to re-unite with Gary Megson, causing him to comment "I can't wait to play for Albion", the bottom line would seem to be whether he would rather stay at a team who've told him that he doesn't figure in their first team plans any more. Albion expect a decision early next week.
