McInnes in for talks

27 July 2000

Midfielder Derek McInnes is due to arrive at The Hawthorns tomorrow (Friday) for contract talks with West Bromwich Albion after his club, Toulouse, agreed to a sale valued at £450,000. McInnes played on loan for Stockport while at Rangers, but turned down a permanent move in favour of a return to Scotland to fight for his first team place. Things didn't work out, and McInnes moved to France - but has failed to command a regular place and has been told that he no longer figures in their first team plans. McInnes seems very keen to work with Megson again after the impression made during the loan spell at Stockport, and the admiration seems mutual because Megson tried to sign him last season to help with Albion's fight against relegation. McInnes is described as a hard working, tough midfielder - and sounds like just the man we need...
