Hughes out for rest of season

14 April 2000

West Bromwich Albion will be without the services of Lee Hughes for the rest of the season. The injury that caused him to come off at half time in the game against Ipswich has turned out to be a minor - but, nonetheless, annoying - broken bone in his leg. Hughes missed the game at Barnsley after failing to respond to treatment, but the initial examintion apparently failed to spot the break. When he still failed to respond this week, a second examination was called for and the full extent of the injury became apparent.

This, of course, puts pressure on the rest of our strike force as they fight to beat the drop into Divison Two, but after scoring two away goals at Barnsley - a difficult feat for anyone - at least we look like we have the ability to pull through.
