Tiny wee snippets of gossip26 January 2000Not a lot of great substance to report from the Hawthorns, so the media seem more keen on trying to create stories out of whatever scraps they can find. The Sun ran a story that Lee Hughes said he had been lied to by the previous Board about funds for team strengthening, and that he may leave the Club as a result. However, in other reports he has been quoted as saying that he's happier now that at least he's found out the truth, and that things are improving - and certainly his performance at Forest, although he didn't actually manage to score, was that of a player looking hungry for goals again. There does seem to be some truth in the story that we are looking around for a loan signing, although nothing for certain indicates that it's a striker we're after and Brian Little has dismissed some of the names we've been linked with - like Mikkel Beck, Graham Fenton and Christopher Wreh - saying "They're just picking names out of a hat". Worrying news, however, is that all three Albion goalkeepers - Miller, Adamson and Morris - are out of contract in the summer, along with several others in the squad. The manager, Chairman and Chief Executive are meeting on a regular basis - presumably to discuss who they really want to keep, but Little has admitted that while we look around for potential recruits in the summer under the Bosman ruling, we could be caught out ourselves and see some players leave who we'd rather keep. Whatever happens in the summer, it's imperative that we strengthen as soon as possible to make sure we're still in this Division next season. Let's hope the search is a short one...
