Curtis the Seal?

23 August 2007

Albion have agreed an ?8 million transfer fee with local rivals Aston Villa for want-away defender Curtis Davies, according to The Sporting Life.

Villa had long been rumoured to be keen on him, but his preference was for Spurs, the team he supported as a boy. The uncertainty of Martin Jol's future there, according to the report, has made Villa favourites and despite the stories circulating that they were frustrated because Albion hadn't named a price, negotiations appear to have carried on behind the scenes.

Albion have said all summer that players would only leave if it suited them; with Davies currently out of the first team after admitting to Mowbray that the transfer speculation was getting to him, and his replacements already doing the business, that amount of money certainly does seem too good to resist.

Update

The deal may be off again, as it seems that it involved Gary Cahill going in the other direction instead of a larger fee; Defender said "No".
