And Watson makes three...

05 July 2005

Albion have made ex-Newcastle, Villa and Everton defender Steve Watson their third signing in a week. The 31 year old joins on a Bosman after turning down the offer of a new contract at Goodison, where he made 136 appearances and scored 13 goals, and has signed a three-year contract at Albion. His 28 appearances last season helped Everton secure 4th place in the Premiership and a Champions League spot.

Meanwhile, Manager Bryan Robson was quick to rubbish an article in today's Daily Mail which claimed that he was on a "collision course" with Chairman Jeremy Peace over signings, in particular Peace's reluctance to pay agents fees, and that there was a great deal of unrest in the dressing room with Russell Hoult poised to "slap in" a transfer request and Jason Koumas failing to turn up for the first day of pre-season training. In a statement on the official site, Robson told supporters "There is absolutely no difference of opinion between me and the chairman. We already have three targets in and together we are working hard to add more new faces. It is nonsense for anyone to suggest that we are on a collision course over the acquisition of new players - or any other subject. We are working together very well at what is an important stage in the development of the club."
