USA Tour Off !01 July 2005Albion have been forced to abandon plans for their pre-season trip to California. Although MLS team LA Galaxy had agreed to play them on July 20th, they subsequently changed their minds after the chance to play Real Madrid came along, and dropped their commitment to Albion. All efforts to resolve the situation appear to have proved fruitless and the club have pulled out of the trip altogether, though why they could not play the other team, Chivas USA, remains unknown. The club are looking to arrange some European games instead and are hoping to make an announcement soon. The news comes after a similar, if less distant and expensive cancellation of another pre-season friendly a few weeks ago. A game was to have been played against Sheffield Wednesday, but that was almost immediately cancelled for unknown reasons. Interestingly, we never saw mention of the US fixtures on either clubs web site, although Albion had announced it on theirs and a number of fans had booked flights and accomodation as a result. The club themselves had also arranged travel and obtained visas at short notice and even set up a package tour for supporters wanting to make the trip.
