Odds on the new boss

29 October 2004

Today's Sun reckons Albion have three people shortlisted for the Manager's job: Glenn Hoddle, Gerard Houllier and Gordon Strachan - but that plans to make the appointment are being held up by the fact that Hoddle is currently on holiday in Spain. Presumably he doesn't have such modern day accesories as a telephone and an agent.

Meanwhile, back at base, Frank Burrows has urged the players to be professional and has told them to forget all about Megson and concentrate on the Chelsea game. He also had a "swipe" at new boy Robert Earnshaw, saying that he's not yet fit enough to play in the Premiership. Burrows also admits that he will be out of a job as soon as the new man takes over - "I'm old enough. I know the rules".

Elsewhere, many readers are saying that some bookies are no longer taking bets on who will get the Hawthorns job - Hoddle appears to be favourite at something like 7/4, a big change from earlier in the week when a few people managed to put money on him at 12-1. Worringly, John Gregory is reported to have made a late surge up the rankings to 7/2. One or two readers have already written to express their horror at the news, and another web site even started an email campaign to persuade the Chairman not to recruit him. Or perhaps it's a plot? Make us think it'll be Gregory so we'll be pleased when it's actually Hoddle?

Whatever the bookies say, you can have yours in the WBA Manager Survey and then take a look at the latest results.
