Turner goes Danish

07 December 2002

Young up and coming winger Matt Turner, just released by Albion this week, has joined Danish side Herfolge. The decision to release him came as a shock to Albion fans who've seen him perform, most recently at Bromsgrove this summer in a pre-season friendly, and rated him as almost ready for first team action. But the decision not to give him a chance in the League Cup defeat at Wigan indicated that Turner, who always described himself as a winger rather than a wing back, had little future with Albion.

Former Danish champions Herfolge, now in Division One, are controlled by former Albion Director Clive Stapleton, who bought a majority shareholding back in the summer, and are located about ten miles from Greve - the home of pre-season friendly campaign three years running. So have Albion done Stapleton a favour by releasing a player he wanted, or have Herfolge they been quick to capitalise on a, perhaps, curious decision?
