Hoult wins award

11 November 2002

Despite being tipped up for a callup, Albion goalkeeper Russell Hoult missed out on the England squad announced today for a training get-together.

However, he can take some consolation in being voted Midlands Player of the Year for last season by the Football Writers' Association. Hoult was unanimously chosen by the Midlands' journalists after his record breaking run of clean sheets helped Albion achieve promotion.

The award was made last night at a celebration dinner in Birmingham.
