Albion welcome Rovers starlet

09 November 2002

According to The Non-League Newspaper, Bromsgrove Rovers starlet Ashley Read has been invited to train with Premiership West Bromwich Albion later in the month.

The youngster has caught the eye of the Hawthorns club but he still has a big part to play for the Dr Martens League Western Division high-flyers, says manager Gary Hackett.

Read, who will train with Albion from November 18th, will be in the Rovers squad to face Cinderford Town on Saturday as Rovers attempt to preserve their lead at the top of the Western Division. Hackett said of the move:

"West Brom have been impressed with Ashley and wanted to monitor him but he's under contract with Rovers and will stop with us. He's predominantly a striker but we played him in a left wing back role and it never hurt anybody to have more than one string to their bow."
