League Cup: Wigan away

16 September 2002

In all the excitement of our third successive Premiership win, we'd almost forgotten about the old League Cup. Especially as we now have the luxury of sitting out the first round!

Anyway, Albion have been drawn away to Wigan Athletic in the second round. The game will be played during the week commencing Monday 30th September, although hopefully not too early as we face Blackburn Rovers at home on that particular date in a televised Premiership game.

The game itself won't be easy - Wigan have started the season strongly and are topping the Division Two table, but narrowly made it through the first round with a 1-0 win over Northampton Town. Fortunately, if last season is anything to go by, Albion's ability to end up with egg on their faces in such games seems to have gone missing...

Latest: The date has been given as Wednesday 2nd October, which means three games in six days for our team. Perhaps we'll field a reserve side now we're in the Big League! Wigan fans are apparently moaning that we're not a glamorous enough tie. We know how that feels, don't we?
