Not one, but two!30 August 2002At the last minute, Albion have broken their transfer record twice in the space of 24 hours. First in was Tranmere's "wing wizard" Jason Koumas for a fee of £2.25 million, rising to £2.5 million based on appearances. But within hours, the new record that replaced the £2 million purchase of Jason Roberts was broken again as Albion paid £2.5 million to Coventry City for the much discussed return of Lee Hughes to the Hawthorns. Now, you might think that this represents a large profit for Albion - but don't forget to take into account the 15% sell-on fee to Kidderminster, the tax on the profit Albion made on the sale to Coventry and an almost certainly hefty signing-on fee for Hughes himself (not to mention his agents fees and who knows what else). And, of course, his increased wages. Whether Albion have ended up making a slight profit, or a slight loss, is unknown at the moment - but there won't be much in it. Both players will be available for the game against Fulham tomorrow. Previous Stories:28 August 2002: Koumas fee agreed (again) 26 August 2002: Sneekes goes Danish 26 August 2002: Transfer splits?
