Transfer splits?26 August 2002Both of Albion's currently known transfer targets seem to be the subject of some disagreement. First, tribalfootball.com reports that the Board of Tranmere Rovers are split over whether or not to accept Albion's offer for Jason Koumas. Some of them believe that they should accept Albion's current offer of £2 million now and a further £250,000 based on appearances while others are insisting that they should match the £2.7 million offer from last season, including the bonus for achieving promotion. Then, reports today have quoted Gary Megson saying that this week will be Lee Hughes' last chance to return to West Bromwich Albion, and that by the time the transfer window opens again in January Albion will have "moved on". The club's official site quotes Megson saying: "his agent says we're quite apart on terms, but we're led to believe, via a third party from Lee, that's not the case" The quote appears to be a prod at Hughes' agent, Neil Fewings, who stated that Hughes would not take a pay cut to join Albion from Coventry City where he earns around £16,000 a week. Some time back, there was a story that Hughes would be happy to come back for only £10,000 a week, which rather goes against Fewings' statement. With time running out for transfers, however, it's not obvious exactly how Albion could move on if the Hughes transfer falls through. Fortunately, every man and his dog (apart from Fewings) seems convinced that it WILL happen...
