Lee Marshall fee agreed

17 July 2002

Albion have agreed a fee for midfielder Lee Marshall, according to the official Leicester City web site. Marshall joined Leicester from Norwich city just over a year ago for £600,000 but has failed to make much of an impression on the side as they fought relegation from the Premiership. Their web site says of Marshall:

"Lee can operate in a variety of midfield and defensive roles and having made his debut at Charlton went on to start seven Premiership fixtures. A strong-running player, he will have benefited from last season and has looked sharp in pre-season work. Lee is a former England under 21 international who was given his opportunity by City manager Peter Taylor when he was in charge of the under 21 squad."

"Londoner Lee came through the non-league ranks at Enfield before he was spotted by Norwich who paid a fee of £15,000 for his services. Lee quickly set about establishing himself in the Canaries line-up and went on to start 108 games in three seasons. He showed his talent for goals by contributing 13 strikes from midfield or defence."

The Leicester City Rivals site, however, is considerably less complimentary:

"Marshall, a Peter Taylor buy from Norwich, did not make a good impression in his time at Filbert Street with some error strewn performances. Although we very occasionally saw some signs of progress these were soon undermined by his failure to grasp such basics as ball control and marking. He probably reached his nadir in the Celtic friendly when he ran round like a headless chicken for a while before the crowd roared their approval as he was substituted."

Let's hope Megson can succeed where Leicester failed and turn him into a solid Premiership player...
