NO! NO! NO!

27 February 2002

Albion's convincing, if misguided, bid for the "most broken feet in one season" award gathered more momentum today when the scan on Jason Roberts' foot provided the news we were all dreading. The same foot broken in the pre-season friendly at Cheltenham Town and in his comeback game against Manchester City has given way again, putting him out of action for the rest of the season; Jase joins fellow broken foot victim Brian Jensen (who's managed it four times now) and Michael Appleton in the long-term injury corner.

The news is a devastating blow to Albion. Roberts was just getting back to top form when the crunch came at Preston - Sean Gregan appeared to step on the foot and the look on Jason's face said it all. With Danny Dichio still out with a back injury, Darren Moore still missing with a leg problem and McInnes suspended, it's beginning to look as though we'll be lucky to get through Saturday's trip to Wimbledon with only a one-nil defeat. As for the rest of the season, now really is the time to put that 2.3 million transfer kitty, along with the extra money from our Cup run, to good use...
