Astle memorial - is it enough?

22 January 2002

Albion have announced that they intend to recognise the late Jeff Astle by naming one of the suites in the Halfords Lane stand after him.

However, for most fans - especially the many that can still remember seeing Astle playing in his prime for Albion - this does not seem to be enough. Various supporters groups are already planning to meet with Club officials to see what more can be done, with popular suggestions involving statues, murals, naming of the whole East Stand or just of individual seating areas within it all receiving popular support. Many are still unhappy that more has not been done to recognise Ronnie Allen, who died last year, and the lack of what is viewed as a fitting tribute to The King will be of great concern.

However, to be fair, with a 4th round Cup game coming up and our push for promotion gathering pace, you can understand why the Club's main focus could perhaps be on other matters...
