FA Cup: Sunderland Away

09 December 2001

The title says it all, really - Albion have been drawn away at the Stadium of Light for the third round of the FA Cup.

The game will be played on the weekend of 5th/6th January, but obviously the exact date and time is yet to be confirmed. With Villa drawn against the struggling Man United, perhaps we're not the most plum attraction for TV - so maybe we'll have a nice, traditional Saturday 3pm kickoff. Wrap up warm - it's cold up North in January!

A Dunces' hat for good old Teamtalk - who didn't pay attention during the draw and reported it as a home game for Albion. Easy mistake, eh lads?

The good news is that Albion can expect to receive a large ticket allocation for the day. The rules say that 15 percent of the seats must be made available to visiting supporters if segregation allows - and given that the ground holds just under 48,000 people, this could mean almost 7,200 Baggies would be able to make the journey. However, suggestions are that we may be limited to only 6,000 by the seating layout.

It should be an excellent day out. Sunderland supporters seem to have had a soft spot for us ever since they won promotion to the Premiership and we celebrated with them on the last day of the season at Roker Park. With a full ground and a large travelling contingent, expect an atmosphere to remember. It also gives a chance for Danny Dichio to make them regret selling him!
