It gets worse...30 October 2001Defender Phil Gilchrist is hoping to play at Palace tomorrow night despite having his arm in plaster. Gilchrist broke a bone in his wrist when he was bundled into the advertising hoardings during the last few minutes at Barnsley - an incident for which striker Bruce Dyer picked up a yellow card. Fortunately, the defender crisis is not as severe as the striker crisis, with Tony Butler fighting to get his place back after losing out to Darren Moore. The decision as to whether Gilchrist is allowed to play rests with the referee, who will try and determine whether the plaster cast is likely to cause injury to other players.
