No go for Dichio30 October 2001Albion have abandoned their interest in Sunderland striker Danny Dichio after his club rejected Albion's offer and upped their price. Chairman Paul Thompson said that Albion's improved offer matched the figure originally discussed with Sunderland - but that the asking price appears to have been raised since then. Personal terms were always likely to be a problem anyway, despite Dichio saying that he'd be happy to accept a wage cut in order to get first team football. Albion are now attempting to secure a striker on loan to cover for what is becoming an increasingly limited set of options up front. With Bob Taylor facing a suspension after his sending-off on Sunday, Scott Dobie nursing a severely battered set of family jewels after the Wolves game and Jason Roberts still recovering from a broken foot, only James Quinn is available to play up front - and Megson recently confirmed what we all knew anyway: he's not really a striker. The rumour is that a Premiership player will be signed in time for the game at Palace tomorrow - ironically, the club who now seem to be the favourites to sign Dichio on a permanent basis. Rumour has it that the striker we're after is the former Manchester City man Uwe Rosler, currently with Southampton.
