Portsmouth Team News

Portsmouth have played down initial reports Mark Burchill will miss the rest of the season through injury as they prepare for the clash with West Brom. The striker sat out the defeat at Coventry after injuring his knee in training. He is to undergo an exploratory operation and there are fears he might have kicked his last ball of the campaign if it proves he has damaged his cruciate ligaments.

Aside from Burchill, boss Graham Rix is hoping to have a full squad at his disposal.

Meanwhile, West Brom manager Gary Megson is sweating on the fitness of Phil Gilchrist for the trip to Fratton Park. The defender managed just 24 minutes of the defeat against Wimbledon with a calf strain. Megson said the injury was nothing major but he believed the game would come too soon for Gilchrist.

On-loan defender Warren Cummings could make it into the squad. It was feared he had suffered a serious knee injury but it has proved not to be as bad as first thought. Cummings' recovery means Darren Moore is likely to miss out on a starting role against his former club.
