Roberts out for six weeks

27 July 2001

To add injury to insult - quite literally - Albion have leant that striker Jason Roberts has a broken toe, and will be out of action until around September. Roberts limped off the pitch in the second half of Albion's narrow win at Cheltenham Town on Thursday, and subsequent X-rays showed the true damage done.

The news is a further bitter disappointment, because Roberts had been looking lively and dangerous in pre-season games. With Hughes now in the shop window, perhaps Bob Taylor will get more of a first team runout than he expected - and Scott Dobie might find himself straight in the thick of things - at least he'll be no stranger to regular first team action.

Still, at last I have my new yellow and green away shirt to cheer me up...
