Cummings joins on loan24 July 2001Albion have eased their left side crisis slightly by signing Chelsea's Scottish U-21 International left-back Warren Cummings on loan for the season. Cummings spent the final two months of last season on loan, but did not get a great deal of first team action. With Jason Van Blerk now out the way, the preferred option will probably be a 3-5-2 with Phil Gilchrist on the left of defence and Neil Clement at wing-back, but Cummings adds an extra option. The new man goes into tonight's squad for the friendly game at Cheltenham. Although the deal made the news some time ago, it appears to have only just been wrapped up. Cummings recently signed a new four year contract at Chelsea, who clearly value the youngster. Albion faced competition for his loan from Bournemouth, where he spent a successful period on loan before coming to us last season. Meanwhile, the possible signing of Bristol City's Aaron Brown looks to be in stalemate, with the two clubs disagreeing over the player's value. Albion's bid of £350,000 falls short of his club's expected value of £600,000 and Chief Executive John Wile is quoted as saying: "We have made an offer which City say is not enough and that is where the situation stands at the moment. They know of our interest in signing the player, but at the moment we can't do anything."
