Baggies appoint new Youth team boss

18 June 2001

Albion have recruited a replacement for departed head of youth development John Trewick. Currently Blackpool's youth team manager, Alan Crawford has achieved success with Blackpool's youth team in recent years, reaching the Lancashire FA Youth Cup final three years running and winning it twice. The youth system at Blackpool also has a good track record of bringing players through the ranks into the first team.

The news has suprised and disappointed fans up at Blackpool, according to Peter Gillatt of the Independent Blackpool FC website at www.seasiders.net. However, he played down their Cup success, saying "The Youth Team only have to play an odd match here or there to qualify for the final".

No statement has yet been made regarding the future of Richard O'Kelly, who has continued to assist in running Albion's youth setup alongside Gary Shelton since Trewick's departure last season.
