Preston tickets sold out

09 April 2001

The remaining tickets for Albion's last match of the season, at Deepdale, have sold out. Fans began to queue at about 11:30pm on Saturday night, probably just after getting back from Fulham (!) and by Sunday morning there were nearly 100 sat in the rain like refugees.

Some 800 tickets were available from our reduced allocation once Away Season Ticket holders and Premier Shareholders had taken priority - and possibly some Executive box holders as well - and with Albion still in a top six position, demand was always going to far exceed availability. By 9:20 am, after frantic activity at the counters, the tickets were gone.

Albion have said that everyone that queued overnight got tickets, and reports from those that were there say that spirits were high despite the conditions. To ensure that the overnight fans got tickets, the gates to the Tom Silk building compound were shut first thing this morning with about 200 people inside - the ones that arrived later had to wait till those people had been served and hope that there would still be some left, as each person could get up to 4 tickets provided they had the appropriate number of season ticket books. The ticket office even opened early to try and deal with people as quickly as possible and relieve the pressure on the ancient iron gates...

Although the situation appears to have been handled as best as reasonably possible, it still seems a bit daft that fans have to queue overnight in the rain to get tickets for a game. Then again, that's what Away Season Tickets are for...
