Loan signings likely?

Today's Birmingham Post gives the strongest hint yet that no permanent signings will be made before this Thursday's transfer deadline. In keeping with Albion's view of the rest of the season this, apparently, isn't a good time to be signing players. In the Post, Albion director Barry Hurst is quoted as saying:

"I don't think this is the right time to make permanent signings, but there's no reason why we can't bring in more players on loan. The 3 we signed last year had the desired effect on the squad and Gary Megson will be looking for players who can make a similar impact. Again, there's no reason why they can't be found."

Hurst's message to the Albion fans is not to panic after the abject defeat at Molineux:

"It was very disappointing result for us but, if you look at the First Division table, it's still in our hands to secure a play-off place. A few teams are feeling the pressure at the moment and there's no doubt that pressure affects form. Nottingham Forest and Watford are both feeling the strain, and so are we."

It would seem, therefore, that our transfer kitty is being kept in a colander, because it seems to be draining away over time even when it's not being used! The lack of any attempt to make a permanent signing will disappoint many fans, so let's hope that some excitement will be generated by any loan signings that we're able to make.
