Hoult signs for Albion

03 January 2001

West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of Portsmouth goalkeeper Russell Hoult for a fee just short of half a million pounds. Hoult has, so far, made 214 first team appearances in a career that has included spells with Leicester City, Lincoln City and Derby County, where he made 139 appearances - mostly in the Premiership.

After signing, Hoult said, "I haven't come here to sit on the bench. I want to be playing first team football. Albion are doing very well and I aim to help them get into the Premiership." However, Hoult will have to displace Brian Jensen, who has put in some good performances over the Christmas break, keeping clean sheets in three out of the four games.

Hoult's contract is for three and a half years, keeping him at Albion until June 2004.
