Baggies take Norwegian winger on trial

28 August 2000

News has reached us from Norway that left winger Frode Fermann is currently on his way to Albion for a one week trial. Fermann, 25 years old, is currently with Tromso and has played for Silsand (in Norway, we think) and Cercle Brugge in Belgium. He also had a trial with Norwich City last year. Everything else we have on him is in Norwegian - but fortunately BOING list member Stian Boe, who tipped us off with the news, has managed to translate it. It's in the form of a mini interview, presumably with the clubs manager...

"They have asked for him to come to a weeks trial, and we have agreed to that. The trial starts Monday and ends Friday. Tromso have good reasons to believe the request is serious. The English club has followed him over time, seen videos of him, and gotten enough reports to know what kind of player he is. They have said to us that this is exactly the kind of attacking player they are missing"

And if WBA want a permanent transfer??

"We don't want to stop the transfer going through if Frode wants it, and we can get an agreement with WBA"

So Frode could have played his last game for Tromso?

"Yes, it's possible. Fermann was on trial at Norwich 1 year ago, but a friendly he was supposed to play in was cancelled, and then he had to have an operation because of an injury. This meant interest cooled down, and he stayed at Tromso"

A few comments gleaned from Tromso supporters:

"He is quick and skillful, but always injured..."

"I hope we can get rid of him, and even get money for him. Both ..... and ..... are better left wingers than him anyway"
