Somewhat bizarre stories have been circulating about released defender Andy McDermott having had a trial with top French team St Etienne, and having impressed them so much that he was offered a contract. Even more bizarrely, he seems to have turned down the offer on the grounds that the style of football played there didn't suit him. Apparently, they like to keep the ball on the pitch most of the time...
