Hughes: Blues offer "two for one" swap31 May 2000Birmingham City manager Trevor Francis has made Albion a serious offer for striker Lee Hughes, offering both Dele Adebola and Peter Ndlovu in exchange. John Wile confirmed that Albion received the offer - and rejected it immediately, saying that they had no intention of selling Hughes and wanted him to stay here (although they did concede that they would still consider a good enough offer from a Premiership club if it came). Gary Megson subsequently told journalists that he had been approached by an agent, claiming to represent Francis, who offered him those two players as well as David Holdsworth and Gary Rowett. However, Francis has denied that he had authorised any such offer, so the truth remains a bit of a mystery.
