Quailey leaves Albion for Scunny

04 February 2000

Brian Quailey has left the Club to join Scunthorpe United. Although we will not receive a fee for him, we have negotiated a sell-on clause giving us 25% of any future fee that Scunthorpe receive for him. Quailey has struggled to make an impact on first team action since his £25,000 transfer from Nuneaton Borough and spent several months last year on loan to Exeter City.

Meanwhile, there is still no sign of any fresh faces to help steer the Club away from the relegation zone. Albion's offer for Cambridge United's Trevor Benjamin was turned down, with them stressing that Benjamin was definitely not for sale after the recent departure of Martin Butler. Albion have also been looking at Nottingham Forest's Marlon Harewood, a player who ironically made his debut against us a couple of years back. However, Forest have placed a £750,000 price tag on his head which is a quarter of a million more than Albion are willing to pay - even though they could afford it.

Finally, former manager Denis Smith has rejoined his old Club, Oxford United, and has suggested that he may be looking to take some of our current squad on loan - possibly McDermott and Potter. At the current rate, will we have a full squad left for much longer?
