Premiership fixtures announced23 June 2005The BAGGIES begin the season with an away fixture for the SIXTH time in a row, every year this millennium! We play MANCHESTER CITY at the City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday 13th August and renew acquaintances with our friends from PORTSMOUTH at the Hawthorns the following weekend. A midweek journey to league champions CHELSEA follows, before we entertain local rivals BIRMINGHAM CITY in the first local derby of the season and then, in our third home fixture, take on newly promoted WIGAN ATHLETIC. Over Christmas and New Year we can expect to play in front of four full houses. On Boxing Day we travel to Old Trafford to face MANCHESTER UNITED and then two days later are home to TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR. After a trip to Anfield to play LIVERPOOL on New Year's Eve we play our second local derby, home to ASTON VILLA, on Bank Holiday Monday. Mid-March sees the return local derby against BLUES and early April the reverse fixture with VILLA. Over Easter we play ARSENAL at Highbury and then on Bank Holiday Monday are home to BOLTON WANDERERS. That leaves just three more fixtures, away to NEWCASTLE UNITED, home to WEST HAM UNITED and unfairly, given that we begin the season away from home, a last day trip to Goodison Park to play EVERTON on Sunday 7th May. Comically, thirty-one of the games are scheduled for a 3pm kick-off on a Saturday. Given our experiences last season, I wonder how many of the fixtures will be fulfilled on those dates and times?
