Haas gone, Hulse next?

26 January 2005

Swiss defender Bernt Haas has left the club after his contract was cancelled "by mutual consent", according to the Club's Official Web Site.

The article goes on to say that Haas was transfer listed by Bryan Robson a couple of weeks ago as he could not be guaranteed first team football, with Martin Albrechtsen and Riccardo Scimeca ahead of him in the pecking order for the right back position. But with him being out of contract in the summer anyway, and attracting some interest from continental clubs, the decision was taken to bring his Albion career to an immediate end.

What the article doesn't mention is the drinking incident, in which Haas was taken away by paramedics after a drunken binge at a Christmas party, or the recent allegations in the Sun about him stripping off in front of his computer during a "cyber-sex" session. We can't help but feel that those two events may have hastened his departure.

Meanwhile, according to Central News, Stoke City have launched a club record bid of ?1.2 million for Albion striker Rob Hulse.

Updates:

  • Bernt Haas has signed a six month contract with French Ligue 1 club SC Bastia
  • Rob Hulse turned down the move to Stoke, and has now been linked with Crystal Palace
