Two out on loan

22 January 2004

The completion of Ronnie Wallwork's month long loan deal to Bradford City has been followed by news that out-of-favour midfielder Lee Marshall is in the process of sorting out a loan deal to Hull City.

Despite scoring Albion's first ever Premiership goal, Marshall has not featured in first team action since the early months of last season thanks to a training ground bust-up with Albion Manager Gary Megson. He has turned down loan moves to other clubs, but Hull are managed by Peter Taylor, who signed him for Leicester City when he was manager there and is perhaps someone Marshall feels more at home with.

Albion, meanwhile, are looking set to face a striker crisis in the not too distant future. Jason Roberts has left for good by signing for Wigan, Danny Dichio has gone on a month long loan to Millwall and Scott Dobie is out with an injury, which leaves only Rob Hulse, Geoff Horsfield and Lee Hughes.

Hughes, however, will be appearing in court again in early February to face the charges from his driving incident late last year, while Rob Hulse is suspended for three games following his sending off against Burnley and Geoff Horsfield is one booking away from suspension.

Rumours have surfaced linking us with Carl Cort of Newcastle United, who has been an Albion target in the past, but further rumours suggest that Wolves may pip us to the post in getting his signature.

With goals having been a problem anyway, things look like they can only get worse...
