Hughes wanted by Police

23 November 2003

Police are anxious to talk to Albion striker Lee Hughes after a fatal accident involving his Mercedes and a Renault Megane near Coventry city centre last night. A spokesman said of the incident:

"A man aged in his 60s who was a rear seat passenger in the Megane died from his injuries and his wife, who was also a passenger, is currently in Coventry and Warwickshire hospital with a broken leg.

The male driver suffered a broken pelvis and another male passenger suffered bruising.

There were five men in the Mercedes, which was involved in the accident just after midnight. The male driver of the Mercedes left the scene with one of the passengers, three other passengers remained at the scene and inquiries are on-going to find the driver.

We would urge him to come forward and to contact his local police station."

Update: A report on Sky Sports News showed pictures taken at the accident scene this morning, although little of interest was actually visible, followed by pictures taken outside Hughes' house which showed that the front door had been boarded up as a result of "forced entry".

The Club themselves have declined to comment on the situation.
