Dyer debuts for Kidderminster

06 September 2003

Lloyd Dyer acquitted himself pretty well in the largely uninspiring Bristol Rovers v Kidderminster Harriers match today. Britton gave him an entire game, displacing Sam Shilton out on the left wing.

In the first half he was (unsurprisingly) nervous, very unwilling to move even very slightly out of position way out on the left, no matter what else was going on. With KHFC only playing the none-too-speedy Henriksen up front, he could have been a tad more pro-active. But when the action did come over his way he put in a number of Robertsesque runs forward through half the opposition with the sort of skill and pace you don't see in Div3 every week - reminded me of Leeds's Harpal Singh doing much the same for Bury v Kiddy in August. Towards the end of the half he put in some equally punchy bits of defending.

In the second half he seemed to gain confidence and got stuck in a bit more, less afraid to lurk around the penalty area and cause trouble. With two and then three strikers coming on, he swapped most of his Roberts impressions for whanging in crosses, but with none of Harriers' strikers exactly world class, he could have had a few goes himself. Once he's had a chance to gel with the team and really become confident, I think he's got the potential to really impress.

I hardly ever get a chance to watch the reserves, so don't know what he usually does there, but with his pace and determination I thought there might be a place for him in the squad at that level in the "headless chicken" role that Kiddy usually give to Dean Bennett. We'll see.
